Meet Onicka.

Onicka is a bright, happy six year old girl who loves puppies, purple, and all things princess! She lives in Bradenton, Florida with her parents and two brothers, and attends school at the Manatee Learning Academy. Her other interests include singing, dancing, drawing, riding her bike, doing people's hair, and going to Chuck E Cheese. She is a wonderful, funny, loving child with an amazing smile and a true heart for helping others.

The accident.

On December 19th 2012, Onicka, her mother, and her two brothers were involved in a terrible car accident that exposed her brain material. Onicka was Bayflighted to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL where she underwent emergency brain surgery to remove part of her frontal lobe. She was induced into a coma and suffered three strokes. Her chances of survival were very low.

A Christmas Miracle.

Onicka's story quickly circulated around town, and she was added to prayer request lists in Manatee, Sarasota, and Pinellas counties. Thousands of people prayed for Onicka's body to heal.
On December 24th the family received a Christmas miracle! Although the extent of damage to her brain and body was still undetermined, the doctors said Onicka would live.

The good people of west central Florida continued to pray, and on January 1st Onicka opened her eyes and blinked at her mother.

The Long Road.

Onicka has surivived against all odds, but she and her family face a long road to recovery. She will likely be hospitalized for several months, and as such her medical bills will be astronomical. Although her family has medical insurance, the portion they will be required to pay is far beyond the modest means of her family.

The other driver had no insurance.
